BIGBANG made their long-awaited return last April, reuniting as four to release the track “Still Life,” which dominated the charts and earned the group their milestone 100th music show win.
After the group’s comeback, BIGBANG’s Taeyang and Daesung announced they were joining new labels. Taeyang joined YG Entertainment‘s subsidiary label, THE BLACK LABEL, and Daesung left YG Entertainment to join RND Company.
G-Dragon remains with YG Entertainment, while T.O.P left the company in early 2022.
While each member focuses on their solo projects with their respective companies, they’ve made it clear that they’re still BIGBANG.
Over the past few years, Daesung has remained mainly out of the spotlight and off social media.
In 2021, it was discovered that he had been anonymously running a YouTube channel where he expressed his musical talents through drum covers.
He updated fans via a handwritten letter upon news of his departure from YG Entertainment being released earlier this year.
Thank you, YG!
Thank you for taking care of me for so long and for helping me grow. I sincerely thank you. And as I keep these feelings close to my heart, I am leaving to begin a new adventure. Although it is scary, I believe there is meaning in taking these new steps.
In 2023, I plan on taking these steps into an uncertain future with confidence and will faithfully continue on this path. Despite my shortcomings, I ask that you support my next steps. Thank you, and I wish you a happy new year.
— BIGBANG’s Daesung
While he shared that he was stepping into an “uncertain future” in his letter, Daesung opened up more about his move to RNB Company and future plans on his D’Splay YouTube channel.
Daesung shared that his new company wanted to form a team dedicated to him, so they created D-LABLE to support him.
The BIGBANG member shared that D-LABLE was intentionally spelled incorrectly to reference the “DL” from his Japanese stage name D-Lite, which he combined with “able” to make D-LABLE.
After taking a long break to recharge, Daesung explained that he is ready for his “next phase.”
I took a long personal break to recharge, but I didn’t waste the time resting and doing nothing. It was what I needed to prepare for this next phase.
It allowed me to train my mind and body and helped me find the right people. And now, I’m ready to hit the ground running.
— BIGBANG’s Daesung
For his “new chapter,” Daesung plans to try different things and has recently returned to tv broadcasts with his appearance on the variety show, Cohabitation, Not Marriage.
